Gift of Katherine Salz Perlman; 2020.
Anne Salz Perlman (1919-2002) was a San Francisco poet and newspaper reporter. A collection of her poetry, "Sorting It Out," was published by Carnegie-Mellon University Press in 1982. She married San Francisco Chronicle science writer and editor David A. Perlman in 1941, and many of their travels and conversations inspired her to write poetry about the natural world and science. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1940 and earned an MFA from San Francisco State. She helped lead summer poetry workshops at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers near Lake Tahoe. David S. Perlman (1918-2020) spent most of his career writing about science at the Chronicle; he retired in 2017 at age 98. His coverage on protecting the Marin County coast was considered instrumental in helping create the Point Reyes National Seashore.
